Our Madras top is made from 100% cotton Madras fabric, a lightweight, breathable checked textile with its roots in Chennai, South India formerly known as Madras.

Recognisable by its joyful mix of colourful checks, Madras cloth has a rich textile history. Traditionally handwoven in South India, its distinctive irregular checks and vibrant colours became recognised around the world, but its story begins with the skilled weaving traditions of Indian artisans.

About the fabric

Madras is loved for the individual character of its weave. Slight variations in colour, texture and pattern are part of the nature and beauty of the cloth rather than imperfections.

By naming the textile and sharing its origins, we hope to celebrate the Indian craftsmanship and history behind a fabric that has travelled around the world while remembering where its story began.
